In the 1930s, Joyce repeatedly traveled to Zurich to consult his ophthalmologist, Dr. Vogt.
When doing so, he either stayed at the St. Gotthard or at the Carlton Elite, both of which were expensive hotels on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse.
