Hotel Carlton Elite, Bahnhofstrasse 41
The Carlton Elite is no longer a hotel (the H. C. E. went out of business in 1997), but the building still stands.
Joyce frequently stayed at the Hotel Carlton Elite (or at the Hotel St. Gotthard) while consulting his ophthalmologist, Dr. Vogt in the thirties. This is also where Joyce worked on the children’s lesson chapter of Finnegans Wake.
