We are please to announce that Sam Slote (Trinity College Dublin) will be the inaugural speaker of our new Online Lecture Series.
Sam Slote’s lecture “Tales of Brave Ulysses: From Swerve of Censorship to Bend of Copyright” will take place on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 6.30 p.m. Zurich time.
In this lecture I will look at how fears over censorship and concerns over copyright moulded the first publication of Ulysses in 1922 and how they’ve endured to affect subsequent editions and translations. While much of this story is widely known, it has also been victim to much error and misapprehension.
Contact us at info@joycefoundation.ch if you’d like to join the event!
The Zurich James Joyce Foundation Online Lecture Series is kindly supported by the Embassy of Ireland, Switzerland.
