Jarnach soon felt disturbed by Joyce\u2019s \u201cextrordinarily powerful but rough tenor voice\u201d and the accompaniment on an untuned piano. When he could no longer bear it, Jarnach knocked on Joyce\u2019s door and asked for an agreement to limit Joyce\u2019s singing hours.
