1st Floor: Room 1
Cabaret Voltaire
During World War I, Joyce was far from the only artistic revolutionary to live and work in Zurich. At the Cabaret Voltaire in Spiegelgasse 1, the Dadaists were busy redefining the meaning of art through their performances, poems, and visual art.
The Cabaret Voltaire functions simultaneously as an artists’ space, a center of expertise and a site for Dada-related activities, as well as a platform for contemporary cultural creation and relevant debates.
Two Dada experts will answer questions and present some items from the Cabaret Voltaire’s unique collection:
- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Lorena Harauzek;
- 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.: Salome Hohl.
JULL – Junges Literaturlabor
The Junge Literaturlabor (JULL) is a public space for writing as well as a center of expertise on creative writing. At the JULL, professional authors work with children and young adults. Schoolkids from the city and the canton of Zurich as well as from further afield visit the JULL’s premises at Bärengasse 20, 8001 Zurich. Facilities include a stage as well as a recording studio.
The JULL’s participation in the open-house event concludes a successful collaboration with the Zurich James Joyce Foundation that included a public reading that took place at the Literaturhaus Zürich on June 12, 2025.
On the Open House Day, the group Extramundana will conduct a writing workshop – and everybody is free to join!
Aldous Huxley Centre Zurich

It offers virtual tours, but on-site visits are of course also available and can be booked via the contact form.
